Job Summary

The Chef will organize and oversee the work of the kitchen staff but at the same time be involved in some of the preparation
and cooking of food at Mapenzi Grill.
The chef will also ensure that the safety and health regulations in the kitchen are strictly respected.


  • Ensuring that all food is of excellent quality and served in a timely manner.
  • Planning the menu, keeping in mind budget, and availability of seasonal ingredients.
  • Overseeing all kitchen operations.
  • Coordinating kitchen staff and assisting them as required.
  • Training staff to prepare and cook all the menu items.
  • Taking stock of ingredients and equipment, and placing orders to replenish stock.
  • Enforcing safety and sanitation standards in the kitchen.
  • Creating new recipes and be able to understand and read cookbooks to keep the menu fresh.
  • Keeping up to date with industry trends.
  • Receiving feedback and making improvements where necessary
  • Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Relevant academic qualification in Catering
  • Computer literacy skills plus ability to manage digital technology like Point of sale terminals
  • Good leadership and supervisory skills
  • Detail oriented and organized in work
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Experience with menu planning, preparing budgets and purchasing
  • Excellent problem analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from immediate Manager
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to track inventories on food, equipment, and other kitchen supplies to maintain an efficient operation while maintaining cost effectiveness.
